The Best Chocolate Shake
Classics Never Get Old
When you think of milkshakes, it is the chocolate shake that pops in everyone's mind. The first taste
of this classic blend of ice cream, chocolate and deliciousness is a fond memory for everyone.
This recipe uses both chocolate syrup and Dutch process cocoa. The chocolate syrup lends "roundness" to the taste while the Dutch process cocoa deepens the tones of the overall flavor profile. We use vanilla ice cream in this shake recipe for more complexity, but if you use chocolate ice cream, add a 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract for the same effect.
For the adults over 21 in the crowd, feel free to jazz it up even further with a shot of Godiva or other chocolate liqueur, too!
Dutch process cocoa adds an alkali to neutralize the acids in regular cocoa powder and is usually used in baking recipes calling for baking powder, but also has the fringe benefit of eliminating some of the bitterness in regular cocoa powder. Note that this is different from a sweetened chocolate milk mix, although you can feel free to use them interchangeably if you are okay with a sweeter flavor.

What You'll Need
- 2 scoops chocolate ice cream
- 2 cups whole milk
- 2 teaspoons chocolate syrup plus extra for decoration
- 1 teaspoon Dutch process cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons whipped cream
- 2 chilled or frozen glasses
Instructions
1.) Combine all the ingredients in a blender.
2.) Blend until smooth. The higher the speed the frothier the result will be.
3.) Drizzle chocolate syrup on the inside of the chilled glasses for a decorative effect.
4.) Pour Immediately into chilled glasses.
5.) Top the froth with whipped cream and a final thin 'lacing' of chocolate syrup and serve.
